Flushing football rivalry goes to the Terriers this year
With two late touchdowns, St. Francis
Preparatory School’s varsity football
Terriers pulled out the victory in their
annual showdown against cross-borough
rivals, the Knights of Holy Cross High
School, 28-21. Both teams entered the
Global Kids 5K in Queens helps the future of America
More than 200 people participated in
the 2018 Global Kids 5K Run/Walk/Push
through Flushing Meadows Corona Park
on Oct. 13.
Participants of all ages, including parents
pushing their kids in strollers, navigated
a 3.1-mile course through the park,
raising close to $30,000 for the Global
Kids (GK) College and Career Readiness
Program.
“Th e event showed me how determined
people were to support the Global Kids
mission. Even though it was raining, people
still came out in large numbers to participate
in this event. On a personal level,
I was given the opportunity to meet new
people within the GK community all
while having fun,” said Yougeeto Singh,
a John Adams High School senior and
GK Leader.
Th rough the program, students participate
in college overnight tours; scholarship
and fi nancial aid application assistance;
career day events; internships
opportunities; and job training.
Last year, 99 percent of GK seniors
graduated from high school and 93 percent
of those students are going to college.
“We fi rmly believe in college access for
all, and this event brings together a wonderful
group of supporters to help raise
critical funds for college tours, application
fees, one to one help, and scholarships
for our students,” stated Executive
Director Evie Hantzopoulos.

Prep would not be denied, scoring 14
unanswered points in the fourth quarter.
Omarion Jones, Nazareth McFarlan and
Aubrey Mitchell each rushed for a touchdown
for St. Francis Prep, while quarterback
Jones threw a touchdown pass of
his own.
Jones stood out among the Terriers,
completing fi ve of his eight passes for 73
yards, good for a 131.8 quarterback rating.
St. Francis Prep’s next opponent is Holy
Trinity, while Holy Cross looks to fi nally
fi nd their fi rst win of the year against St.
John the Baptist.
