He enhanced our lives and made us smile and cheer! Yogi’s over I must share some Yogi-isms that are worth remembering. Here are my top ten: Photo courtesy of The Tablet/Ed Wilkinson Dynamic $1500 off Lumineers $500 off Invisalign DENTAL WORK Free Whitening included the inViSiBle WAy to Some excluSionS Apply StrAighten teeth third generation dentist 175-15 Jamaica avenue, Jamaica 718-297-4100 • 718-297-4106 I’m not a Catholic, but I fell in love with Pope Francis, as I think millions of others did, this past week. His presence in our city, Washington and Philadelphia sealed forever his impact. And it’s all good! When I found out that Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who helps run Futures in Education for the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, was bringing children to greet the Pope at JFK, I wanted our Queens editor to be there to capture the moment. He did and was professionally and personally ecstatic to be there. It reminded me of the reporting of Anderson Cooper who was sitting only 50 yards from the Pope and looking at him on the monitor and then immediately saying, “I should turn around and see him – oh my, oh my!” He was not the only journalist who was so moved. Rarely has there been a story to cover that was so joyous for so many. Pope Francis before he became the pope was so serious that people who knew him said he rarely smiled, but now he radiates happiness. His smile has lit up all our lives. His white robes refl ect his purity and his message to so many seemed to touch on every subject that affects our world today, including immigration, child abuse, global warming, religious tolerance, empathy and injustice. How blessed we all are to have him and hear his message of peace and love. May it be embedded in all of us. 10. Little league baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets. 9. You should always go to other people’s funerals. Otherwise, they won’t come to yours. 8. I never blame myself when I’m not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn’t my fault that I’m not hitting, how can I get mad at myself? 7. When you come to a fork in the road, take it! 6. The towels were so thick here I could hardly close my suitcase. 5. We made too many wrong mistakes. 4. Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical. 3. How can you hit and think at the same time? 2. It’s like déjà vu all over again. 1. I didn’t really say everything I said. And ...”It ain’t over till it’s over.” So sorry it’s over. May he rest in peace. Photo by Corazon Aguirre
