The victim, a 27-year-old male, was working at a barbershop located at 132-03 Liberty Ave., when the four male suspects entered the establishment on Sept. 21 at 7:19 p.m., with two displaying black firearms. The suspects then took the victim to the basement, where they removed his Samsung cellphone, iPad and approximately $52 in cash before fleeing the establishment. There were no reported injuries. Surveillance video of the four suspects was taken at a neighboring store and recovered by the NYPD. Police described the four suspects as black males. One was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt with a gray undershirt, a gray baseball cap, khaki pants and white sneakers; another was observed wearing a blue sweatshirt, light blue jeans and black sneakers. The third perpetrator wore a white sweatshirt, dark blue jeans and black sneakers, while the fourth suspect was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, light jeans, blue and white baseball cap and white sneakers with black laces. A 26-year-old homeless man was charged for stealing the identity of an elderly man, who welcomed him into his home, and then going on a $50,000 shopping spree, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. Christian Albines, whose last known address was on Woodhaven Boulevard, was arraigned on Sept. 25 on charges of grand larceny, identity theft, forgery, possession of a forged instrument and scheme to defraud. Bail was set at $75,000 and he was ordered to return to court on Oct. 1. According to prosecutors, the 26-year-old had no place to live in November 2011 when the elderly victim, who was acquainted with Albines’ family, welcomed him into his home. A month later, the 66-year-old retired from his longtime job at Flushing Hospital. He had paid off all his credit cards, but failed to close them out and then moved back to his home country of Columbia. During this time, Albines allegedly got access to the credit cards, called the banks and had himself added as an authorized user and extra cards were sent to him in his name, authorities said. Albines allegedly maxed out the cards through charging $50,000 worth of expensive dinners, fancy clothes, car washes and more. According to Brown, Albines also allegedly filed a false tax return in the victim’s name and collected a $6,000 refund. Due to Albines’ actions, the victim had to return to the United State to resolve the credit card fraud. The IRS also had begun garnishing the victim’s pension in order to collect the $6,000 refund. “The defendant is alleged to have taken advantage of the victim’s kindness by running up charges on his credit cards and even filing a bogus tax return to line his own pockets. This is yet another reminder to always protect you financial information and to be very careful whom you take into your home,” Brown said. Albines, who is currently out on bail, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Driver slams into two street lamps, parked car in Maspeth: police Photo courtesy of NYPD A man who was driving with a suspended license was critically injured in an early morning car crash in Maspeth on Sept. 27, according to police. Authorities said the 39-year-old male was speeding westbound on Flushing Avenue at 4 a.m. when he struck a lamppost at 54th Place. Upon the initial impact, his vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck a second lamppost and a parked car before coming to a stop just before a street intersection. Officers from the 104th Precinct found him unconscious and unresponsive, and he was extracted from his 2010 Nissan vehicle by FDNY at the scene. Emergency service technicians transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital Center with severe injuries. He was the only individual involved in the crash. Although the incident is still under investigation by the NYPD, the 104th Precinct’s official Twitter account reported that the driver was found intoxicated at the time of the accident and speculated that he was “likely to die” because of the severity of the injuries sustained. $$Top Cash Paid$$ HIGH END ANTIQUES HIGH CASH PAID Oil Paintings, Mid-Century Accessories 1950s/60s, Porcelain, Costume Jewelry, Sterling Silver, Gold, Furniture, Objects of Art, etc. 1 Pc. or entire estates Damaged Quality Pieces also wanted Premium prices paid for Tiffany, Meissen Porcelain, Bronzes, Marble, etc. CALL JOSEPH OR RUTH 718-598-3045 or 516-270-2128 Family Business for over 40 years AntiqueAssets.com Buying and Selling over 40 Years / Member New England Appraisers Association
