It’s Scary Story Contest time again! by the QUENS COURIER STAFF editorial@queenscourier.com @queenscourier Hey kids: want to scare the yell out of us? Then we dare you to enter the annual Ridgewood Times and Queens Courier Scary Story Contest. Over the last 30 years, the newspapers — along with the Kiwanis Club of Glendale — have co-sponsored this cooky and spooky writing contest open to children in our coverage area currently enrolled in the third through eighth grades in public and private schools. We’re looking for youngsters to use their imaginations, originality and creativity to write their own original horror stories of no more than 500 words. Teachers are invited to make this a class project this fall and enter their students’ submissions directly to us for consideration. “Fall may be the season of tricks and treats, but it is certainly a treat every year to see so many great scary stories from local students,” said Robert Pozarycki, editor-inchief of the Ridgewood Times and Queens Courier. “We dare every student to put on their thinking caps and come up with even greater stories this year to delight and frighten our readers.” The contest directors will read the stories and select four winners in all — two from grades three through five, and two from grades six through eight. The first prize winners will receive $100 gift certificates; the second prize winners will receive $50 gift certificates. All of the winning entries, along with a photograph of the contest winners, will be published in a November issue of the Ridgewood Times and Times Newsweekly. To enter, submit your story along with your name, address, parents’ telephone number and school by mail to Ridgewood Times/Queens Courier Scary Story Contest, 38-15 Bell Blvd., Bayside, NY 11361. Teachers may drop their students’ entries off at our offices at 62-40 Fresh Pond Rd. in Ridgewood or 38-15 Bell Blvd. in Bayside. Entries will not be accepted via email at this time. All entries must be received by Oct. 30 for consideration. Check out the ad in this week’s paper or email editorial@ridgewoodtimes. com for additional information.
