P. Stavisky School, in Flushing.
Th e award is given every year to
a graduate of PS 242 who demonstrates
outstanding academic
achievement as determined by the
faculty and administration.
Th e award and school are
named aft er Senator Stavisky’s
late husband, Leonard P. Stavisky,
who served in the State Assembly
and the State Senate. A passionate
educator, the late Stavisky was
a leading advocate on education
issues and chaired the Education
Committee in the Assembly for

graduation
speeches at
middle schools in
the Rockaways
Assemblywoman Stacey Pheff er Amato was a
featured speaker at four middle school graduations
throughout the Rockaways over the weekend.
On Friday, June 15, Pheff er Amato delivered
speeches at three schools in the Rockaways: St.
Frances de Sales Catholic Academy in Rockaway
Park, St. Rose of Lima in Rockaway Beach, and St.
Camillus Catholic Academy in Rockaway Beach.
Th e next day, she spoke at Torah Academy for
Girls in Far Rockaway.
“I can’t think of a better way to spend my weekend
Congratulations Class of 2018!” said Pheff er
Amato. “Th ese students are the future. I can say
this: I left honestly inspired, knowing our community
and our world are in very good hands.
Whether the students I spoke to were Middle
Schoolers or High Schoolers, I’m bowled over
by where they’re going and what they intend to
accomplish. I hope they keep us posted as they go
out in the world and do our community proud!”
