All are invited to participate in the various events honoring those who served in defense of the country through the years. Among the events are the following: Laurelton The 27th annual Laurelton Memorial Day Parade begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 30, at the intersection of Francis Lewis and Merrick boulevards. The organizers of this commencement are requesting that School District 29 students participate in the event and march in honor of our fallen heroes. The parade, which celebrates “those who gave their lives for our country,” ends at Veterans Memorial Triangle at 225th Street and North Conduit Avenue. Howard Beach The Howard Beach Memorial Day Parade will honor Vietnam War veterans, including the Howard Beach residents lost at war since the neighborhood’s founding. There will be FILE PHOTO Maspeth a memorial day Mass before the parade at Our Lady of Grace at 101st Street on Monday at 9:30 a.m. At 10:15 a.m., there will be a brief ceremony on top of Hawtree-Ramblersville Bridge and the parade will officially commence at Coleman’s Square at 11 a.m. The parade will stop at the Vietnam War Memorial, located at 99th Street and 157th Avenue and then head to the World War II Memorial at Assembly of God Church at 158-31 99th St. They will then march to St. Barnabas Church at 159-19 58th St. before marching back to Coleman Square. Forest Hills The Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade, hosted by Forest Hills Kiwanis Club and Continental Post 1424, will take place on Sunday, May 29. The parade starts at noon at Metropolitan and Ascan Avenues and continues west to Remsen Memorial Park at Trotting Course Lane. The grand marshals for this year’s parade will be Det.Gigi Redzematovic and Lt. Col. Thomas Sullivan. Maspeth Maspeth will remember the heroes that gave everything to protect this country with their annual Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 29. This year’s special theme is “Lest We Forget: 100th Anniversary of World War I.” The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. at Walter Garlinge Memorial Park, located at 72nd Street and Grand Avenue. Ceremonies will commence at Maspeth Memorial Park, located at 69th Street and Grand Avenue at 2 p.m. The grand marshals for this year’s parade will be Mary Ann Todzia, founder and president of Matthew’s Mission, and Fred Gundel, Vietnam veteran and commander of the Frank Kowalinski Post. Ridgewood/Glendale The 78th Annual Memorial Day parade will kick off at 11 a.m. in Ridgewood this year at the Ridgewood War Memorial, located at Myrtle and Cypress avenues on Monday, May 30. There will be a short memorial service at the site before grand marshal of the parade, Herman Hoehing of the Brewery- Keenan-Heisser Post 1815, a World War II Army veteran, leads the procession of Sailors and Marines from the USS Bataan (LHD 5) in port for Fleet Week, other veterans, local elected offi cials, civic organizations, Boy and Girl Scout troops and others, down Myrtle Avenue to the Glendale War Memorial, located at Myrtle and Cooper avenues.
