SHOOTINGS?
Th e shooting at Santa Fe High School
in Texas which left between 8 and 10
people dead, is an absolute tragedy.
Once again, another shooter was able
to breach school security and open fi re,
killing those innocent students and staff .
It has come to the point in our country,
as we have already seen, that even
schools are no longer safe havens of
learning and security for our children,
teachers and administrators.
What is the matter with our elected
politicians in Washington, DC? When
are they going to have the tenacity and
courage to stand up to the much too
powerful NRA and pass much stricter
gun control laws?
Every gun shop and gun expo should
immediately stop selling assault weapons.
No civilian needs to own these types
of weapons. Only law enforcement and
the military should be permitted to use
them.
Th ere have been far too many shootings
in our schools, and if this carnage
does not stop, perhaps many parents
will opt for having their children homeschooled
at home, and not in school classrooms.
Congress, get off your underworked
and overpaid backsides and start standing
up for your constituents who elected
you to do a job.

Trump’s new lead attorney, Rudy
Giuliani, was recently asked by George
Stephanopoulos about his statements
regarding Cohen’s payments to Stormy
Daniels. Giuliani tried to backtrack and
denied making the statements.
“But that’s what you said,”
Stephanopoulos said. “You stated it as
fact.”
Giuliani responded, “Well, maybe I
did. I don’t know. How do you separate
fact and opinion?” Yup, Giuliani is the
perfect attorney for Trump.
Th e problem facing Trump administration
lawyers and spokespersons is the
lack of pen and paper. As a result, they
are unable to keep track of their constantly
changing lies.

HOLD TRUMP
ACCOUNTABLE FOR
DANGEROUS DEMAND
Th is past Sunday, the President ordered
an investigation into the FBI’s use of an
informant to investigate his campaign.
While seemingly innocuous, this is a
very dangerous assault on the rule of law
in our country. It is unprecedented for a
president to make a wholly unfounded
political demand that those investigating
him for crimes against the United States
be themselves investigated.
Even more dangerous, it is a time tested
tactic of authoritarians seeking to
consolidate power. Th e playbook is to
attack the rule of law under the guise of
ferreting out ‘’corruption.’’
Th e President is once again using the
offi cial powers of the presidency and the
machinery of the federal government to
undermine the rule of law. Th e long list
of impeachable offi cial misconduct continues
unabated. Th at this now occurs
without unanimous bipartisan excoriation
and calls for removal speaks to how
far off the rails our representative government
fi nds itself.
It is not in the least bit normal. We
must not lose sight, for that is what
authoritarians seek.
We must hold our members of
Congress to account. Not a single one
has spoken out about this latest assault
on the institutions of our Republic.

WHAT’S GOOD FOR
THE RIDER IS GOOD
FOR THE BOSSES
Seven months later, removal of corner
seats on some E line subway cars
to accommodate more riders is still the
equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.
Homeless people gravitate to the E line
since the routes run 100% underground,
providing consistent warmth in the winter
and cool in the summer. Now, they
will gravitate to the middle seats, depriving
regular riders.
Let MTA Chairman Joe Lhota, board
members, agency presidents and other
staff lead by example. Give up your seats
at future MTA Board meetings. Try
standing for one hour like riders do and
see how you like it.
First it was removal of corner seats on
subway cars to accommodate more commuters
as a temporary solution to dealing
with the growth in ridership. Now
the MTA needs to fi nd $17 billion of the
$20 billion needed to bring the subway
signal system up to a state of good repair.
Purchase 1,000 new in addition to routine
replacement subway cars to expand
the existing fl eet. Support the larger car
fl eet with new and additional yard and
shop space. Th is will provide a real solution
to increase capacity necessary to
deal with all the new riders.
