Shaw hit safely in all four games and went 7-for-16, good for a .438 average with a pair of multi-hit performances. The freshman registered two multi-RBI games and totaled five RBI, while also scoring three runs with a .500 on-base percentage. The freshman went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored against Iona. Shaw then went 1-for-2 with what proved to be the game-winning two-run single in the seventh inning of a 2-0 seriesopening victory against Butler. The second baseman was 1-for-4 in the second game against the Bulldogs, and went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in the finale. Shaw, who leads the Red Storm in both multi-hit games with 16 and multi-RBI games at 13, ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with a .317 batting average and leads the league with 40 RBI. One of three Red Storm players to start all 45 games, the rookie is also tied for seventh in the conference with 32 runs scored. St. Luke’s pitcher tosses no-hitter against St. Margaret’s By ANTHO NY GIU DICE agiudice@qns.com/@A_GiudiceReport As the rain gave way to sunshine, St. Luke’s eighth-grade team took on St. Margaret’s in a CYO showdown on Saturday, April 23, which saw St. Luke’s pitcher John Guarneri throw a no-hitter in a 7-3 victory. St. Luke’s set the tone early, with some solid defense and held St. Margaret’s off the scoreboard in the top half of the first inning. In St. Luke’s half of the opening frame, they managed to plate two runs. Thomas Nagle and Kemon Lardas both scored on a hard single to left field by Jude Cutolo. St. Luke’s offense added three more runs in the second inning, led by first basemen Cosmo Sanicola, who had a well-placed two-run single into right field. It was much of the same on defense for St. Luke’s with impressive pitching a stellar defense. Guarneri kept the St. Margaret hitters confused and off-balance at the plate with the combination of his well-placed fastball and devastating curve-ball. Guarneri was helped by the defense behind him, led by shortstop Kemon Lardas, who made several fine plays throughout the game, and Thanasi Dilos, whose solid catching skills helped contain the St. Margaret’s running game. St. Luke’s added runs in the third and fourth innings as they cruised to the 7-3 win. Guarneri’s final pitching stats were six innings, zero hits, three runs, one earned run, four walks and 13 strikeouts.
