In 1996, he portrayed Jay Leno in “The Late Shift,” based on the New York Times bestseller. He has also appeared in hit television shows such as “Matlock,” “Lost” and “NCIS.” These days, one of his many projects include a second season of “Classics with Daniel Roebuck” on NET TV, a show on which he and a group of special guests watch classic movies and television shows and discuss them with a religious spin. On Thursday, April 30, filming for the show took place in the building formerly used as Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School. “It’s been a lot of fun. We do the show with Catholic youth leaders, Catholic Monsignors. We dissect it enthusiastically,” he said of the movies and shows of all genres BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP/Photo by Jaime DeJesus and eras watched by the cast. “Sometimes we get movies where we don’t know why they made them, but the point of it isn’t to be critical,” Roebuck explained. “It’s to find an enthusiasm for the filmmaker’s work. The movies aren’t all religious. We direct the conversation to what can we take from this in our faith?” Roebuck got involved with the project through Joe Estevez, Martin Sheen’s brother. “Joe does a show for NET TV and I did a segment for him,” Roebuck recalled. “I met Craig Tubiolo from DeSales Media through that. They said to me ‘You love movies. Do you want to do a show where we watch old movies and talk about them?’ I do that for free, so to do it as a job and for such a great organization, it’s a nobrainer.” The episodes are shot quickly, with 32 of them shot in just a few days as they cycle through guests, research and discuss the film. For season two, the show will become Daniel Roebuck on the set. more interactive. “This year, we shot some stuff in LA,” Roebuck said. “We showed a Vincent Price movie and I interviewed his daughter Victoria. In another episode, we showed ‘House on Haunted Hill’ and I went to the actual house from the movie.” Roebuck has had a diverse career, though some highlights stand out. “Every 10 years or so, I get to do something that everyone talks about, so being in ‘River’s Edge’ was a highlight as was playing Jay Leno,” he noted. Through all the roles, Roebuck says he remains grounded and grateful. “It’s a blessing,” he said. “There’s no accident of universe. It’s God saying ‘stay humble.’ I pay attention to those signs. It’s a message: ‘You made the right decisions, keep making them.’” Season two of “Classics with Daniel Roebuck” premieres Sunday, June 7.To find out more about the show or to watch full episodes, visit www. netny.tv.
