Drive-by shooting
claims man’s life
Th e suspect who shot a 48-year-old
man to death in South Jamaica on the
morning of Saturday, April 13, remained
at large as Th e Courier went to press on
Wednesday aft ernoon.
Law enforcement sources said the deadly
shooting occurred at about 6 a.m. on
April 13 in front of a location on Guy
R. Brewer Boulevard between 108th and
109th avenues.
Offi cers from the 103rd Precinct
responded to a ShotSpotter activation
and found the 48-year-old male victim
in the passenger’s seat of a bullet-ridden
black Nissan Maxima. He had suffered
multiple gunshot wounds to his
torso and arm.
Paramedics rushed the man to Jamaica
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not yet publicly disclosed his
identity, but the New York Daily News,
citing police sources, identifi ed him as
Shaun Peart.
In all, the Daily News reported, at least
six bullets blasted the driver’s side door of
the Nissan Maxima, and the window had
been completely shattered.
Police sources have yet to disclose a
description of the shooter. No arrests
have been made, and the investigation is
ongoing.
ShotSpotter is a high-tech NYPD program
which uses sensors designed to
track the location of gunfi re throughout
the city.

Three men nabbed for
overnight break-in
Three Queens men were arrested on
Sunday, April 14, shortly after they broke into
a Whitestone home and took off with power
tools, law enforcement sources said on April 16.
According to authorities, at 4:23 a.m. on
April 14, it was reported that three men
entered a 48-year-old woman’s home located
in the vicinity of 146th Street and 23rd
Avenue through the side entrance. Once
inside, the crooks went into the basement
and took various construction tools.
Th e suspects then fl ed the scene and
the victim called 911. Th e victim was not
injured as a result of the incident.
Offi cers from the 109th Precinct‘s Anti-
Crime team arrived at the scene and canvassed
the neighborhood for the burglars, who were
ultimately found in the vicinity of Lee Street
and 23rd Avenue, and apprehended them.
Th e suspects were identifi ed as 23-yearold
Th eofanis Tsolakis, of Astoria,
22-year-old Yonatan Martin, of Corona,
and 20-year-old Zaire Laive, of Woodside.
Th ey were each charged with burglary
and criminal possession of stolen property,
with Martin and Tsolakis receiving
addition charges of criminal possession of
a weapon. Tsolakis was also charged with
possession of burglar tools.

Man fatally shot
following argument
Detectives are still looking for the gunman
who shot and killed a 26-year-old
man following a brawl at a Corona intersection
early on Saturday morning.
Police said the shooting occurred at
1:50 a.m. on April 13 at the corner of
National Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
Offi cers from the 110th Precinct
responded to the location aft er receiving
a 911 call about shots fi red. Upon arriving
at the scene, they found 26-year-old Juan
Flores with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Th e New York Post reported that Flores
was shot aft er getting into a physical altercation
with a group of people. Th e suspected
shooter is believed to be a man
wearing a blue sweatshirt.
Paramedics rushed Flores, who resided
on 104th Street in Corona, to Elmhurst
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cops shut down
Ravenswood narc ring
Seven alleged drug dealers found themselves
in handcuff s on Monday, April 15,
for their alleged roles in a major narcotics
ring at the Ravenswood Houses public
housing complex in Long Island City.
Th e District Attorney’s Offi ce identifi
ed Jamarl Gilmore, 38, of 35th Avenue
in Long Island City, as the ringleader
of the outfi t. Other main defendants
include Donte Wiggins, 38, of Queens
Village, Damein Walker, 40, and Gerard
Dennis, 26, both of Long Island City.
Th ree other individuals were also arrested
. Upon arresting Wiggins, authorities
said, police allegedly recovered a plastic
bag full of cocaine from the defendant’s
buttocks. Police also made a court-authorized
search of Wiggins’ residence
and allegedly recovered two .40-caliber
semi-automatic handguns, magazines
and ammunition.
Chief Assistant District Attorney
John M. Ryan announced the arrests
on April 15 as part of a yearlong investigation,
during which Queens North
Gang Squad detectives and members of
the Queens District Attorney’s Narcotics
Investigations Bureau allegedly arranged
the sale of cocaine and heroin to undercover
police offi cers.
Agents also gathered intelligence
about the ring by listening to conversations
between members of the drug
ring through an eavesdropping warrant.
Using search warrants at eight diff erent
locations within Queens County, police
allegedly recovered a total of three fi rearms,
high-capacity magazines, nearly
100 rounds of ammunition, cocaine,
marijuana and a scale.
“Th e defendants charged in this case
turned a housing complex fi lled with
families and numerous children into an
illicit drug emporium,” said Ryan.
Gilmore was charged with fi rst-degree
criminal sale of a controlled substance
and other crimes. Th e defendant’s case
is pending and he faces between 15 and
30 years in prison if convicted. Th e other
defendants are being charged in separate
complaints with the criminal sale of
a controlled substance and other crimes.
