Join the Partnership for Parks and the city Parks Department for “It’s My Park Day,” a series of volunteer cleanup and beautifi cation projects across the city. One such cleanup will take place at the Underbridge Dog Run in Forest Hills. Volunteers can meet up at 8 a.m. at the entrance to the dog run on the Grand Central Parkway service road at 64th Avenue. Another cleanup will be held in conjunction with the Douglaston Little Neck Lions Club from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alley Pond Park, located at Douglaston Parkway and 67th Avenue. Learn about the history of Bayside during the “Historic New York: Native Americans” presentation that the Urban Park Rangers will hold from 1 to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Fort Totten. The presentation will focus on Bayside, which was originally inhabited by the Matinecock Indians, a tribe of the Algonquin nation. Matinecock, meaning “hilly country,” described the surrounding landscape. The Rangers will guide you to historic sites within the park and discuss Native American culture. Admission is free. Rufus King planted hundreds of trees around King Manor, many of which still exist today and house various birds. Learn more about it during a special presentation at the King Manor Museum in Jamaica. Then at 1:30, guests can make their own bird feeders out of oranges for the many winged friends in Rufus King Park. Admission is free. The Queens Historical Society presents their newest exhibition, Leading the Way: Six Outstanding Women of Queens, at the Kingsland Homestead in Flushing. Featuring women from diverse fi elds and backgrounds, who at one point in their lives lived and worked in Queens, the exhibition highlights the life and work of Helen Keller, Betty Friedan, Rise Stevens, Lisa Randall, Grace Lee Boggs, and Yeou- Cheng Ma. Also on display is an interactive installation of handmade sea glass-like objects by artist M. J.
