FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com THE COURIER SUN • JANUARY 26, 2017 55 sports BWG 2004 team takes first at North Babylon tournament Cardozo and Bayside high schools win big at MLK Relays BY JOSEPH SWIFT @JSwiftSports On Monday, Jan. 16, Benjamin Cardozo High School participated in the girls 4x800-meter relay at the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Martin Luther King Jr. Relays held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory. The girls came out victorious, not only winning their heat, but capturing the 4x800-meter relay title with a time of 9:45.32 beating out 27 other teams. The Cardozo girls 4x800-Meter Relay Varsity team consisted of Liliana Cohen, Tatianna Martinez, Sophia Muccini, and Shalah Means. Bayside High School also had an impressive performance at the Martin Luther King Jr. Relays, as they took home the title in the girls 4x400-meter relay. Their team included Ayana Walters, Tyler Mustafa, Mateel Cameron, and Joanne Woolward. Photo courtesy of BWG Soccer Photos by Joseph Swift The Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) 2004 girls traveled to North Babylon last weekend and won first place in the North Babylon indoor tournament. The team won all for games they played, defeating North Babylon Liberty, Dix Hills, North Babylon Freedom, and Babylon Storm. One of the BWG 2004 girls, Ashley Kieblesz, was named the tournament’s offensive Most Valuable Player. In other big news for BWG, Dakota Barnathan, one the group’s Academy products, was recently selected by FC Dallas in the MLS Super draft.
