The boys are coming off of an undefeated inaugural season, and are continuing their stellar play. The boys varsity basketball team leads the Public Schools Athletic League’s (PSAL) Queens B West division with a 6- 0 record. Their latest victory came on Monday, Dec. 15 as they handed Robert F. Wagner Jr. their first loss of the season, 87-63. Junior Matthew Nickel led the team with 17 points and made five assists. Head coach Anastasia Bitis said the boys believe, “this is the season we can win the division and advance far into the playoffs.” In accordance with PSAL regulations, a team must win at least half of its games to make the playoffs. With an 18-game season, and the boys team with already six wins, they are well on their way to making the playoffs this year. The girls varsity basketball team was previously undefeated before dropping their latest contest on Tuesday Dec. 16 against Academy for Careers in Television and Film, 54-45. Team captain Ciara Walsh lead the team with 26 points. The girls hold a share of the PSAL Queens B2 West Division lead with Queens Vocational Tech., both having 6-1 records. The girls also have hopes of winning their division this year and making a run in the playoffs. BWG Team Sought Title In Fla.
