According to law enforcement sources, the stickup occurred at 6 p.m. last Friday in the vicinity of Grand Avenue between Rust and 59th streets. Reportedly, the perpetrators entered through a side door and walked into the main office, where they confronted a 67-yearold male employee. Police said the crooks displayed firearms and demanded that he remove money from a safe. Within seconds, authorities noted, another male employee walked into the office as the robbery was underway. The gunmen reportedly removed property from the victim, then forced him to lie on the floor. Law enforcement sources said the crooks obtained $10,830 in -SEE STICKUP ON PG. 58- Santa And Friends Stop In Woodhaven The North Pole’s most famous resident brought some of his friends with him to Woodhaven last Saturday, Dec. 13, for a photo session with local children organized by the Woodhaven Business Improvement District. In the past year, officers have focused their efforts on problematic areas in South Ozone Park. Based on the recommendation of its Zoning and Land Use Committee, the board agreed to support the application for The Back Yard, which will open in April 2015 at 56-06 Cooper Ave., within the recently-formed Ridgewood Industrial Business Zone (IBZ). In September, the board recommended denial of the application, but at the next month’s meeting, The Back Yard’s operators—Justin Carter, Mark Connell and Eamon Harkin—came to address the board’s concerns and appealed -SEE BOARD 5 ON PG. 59- R’wood School At ‘Hallelujah Project’ The I.S. 77 chorus, under the direction of Laura Saenz, were part of the St. Francis Prep HS Christmas concert, Hallelujah Project.
