Still holding on to their slim lead, the Panthers inbounded the ball, which led to a jump ball. The Lady Red Hawks won the jump ball, giving them hope to complete the comeback. On the final play of the game, Briana Johnson drove down the court and passed to Sarah Edwards who hit a layup, giving LAGCC a 63-62 lead. Edwards was fouled on the play and sank the ensuing free throw to give the Lady Red Hawks the 64-62 victory. Johnson scored a game-high 26 points on 50 percent shooting for LAGCC. She also tied a school record for three-pointers in a single game with four, as she went 4-of-7 from three-point range. Edwards also had a double-double, scoring 15 points and recording 10 rebounds. The win improves LAGCC’s record to 8-2 overall, 7-1 in the region and 5-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), while BMCC falls to 3-4 overall and in the region and 2-2 in CUNYAC. The Lady Red Hawks will face off against Bunker Hill at home in a game at noon on Saturday, Dec. 19. Last season, the Lady Red Hawks lost to Bunker Hill by a score of 64-50. The game was close after the first quarter, with the Argonauts holding a 14-13 lead. Maspeth High School pulled further ahead in the second and third quarters, scoring a total of 29 points over the two quarters, while holding the Eagles to eight and six points in the second and third quarters respectively. The Academy of American Studies put up a fight in the fourth quarter, doubling up the Argonauts 18-9, but could not complete the comeback. Junior Nathaniel Nickel led Maspeth High School with a teamhigh 14 points. The Argonauts will look to continue their unbeaten season as they face off against the Newcomers Lions on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
