St. Brigid Academy continues tradition of excellence BY SUZANNE MONTEVERDI editorial@ridgewoodtimes.com @RidgewoodTimes St. Brigid Catholic Academy has made substantial improvements on all fronts in the goal of continuing its rich tradition of educational excellence and Catholic teaching. “We want to be No. 1 in the Diocese of Brooklyn,” Principal Catrina Rocco said. Principal Rocco and the Academy’s new staff, administration and board of directors have made big changes at the Academy this fall to back this bold claim. The school, which has served Ridgewood and Bushwick communities for more than 100 years, has implemented a variety of new programs within the curriculum, including a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program for grades three through eight run by Dr. Petite Jacques, and an Accelerated Reader Program, which provides an individualized approach to reading and writing lessons. These rigorous and focalized classes have been purposefully devised to prepare each student for his or her future high school education. The Academy has also enacted a diverse selection of after-school programs, including soccer, dance, tennis, theater and music. Additionally, it has undergone several renovations, including new hardwood flooring in the auditorium, the addition of artistic murals that line the halls and updates to restroom facilities. Principal Rocco and the staff at St. Brigid have begun organizing a calendar of events that offer families the opportunity to learn more about the newly revamped Academy. The first event, Cafe Con Leche, was held on Oct. 21 and presented information sessions in both Spanish and English. To learn more about the curriculum at St. Brigid Catholic Academy, prospective families are invited to call 718-821-1447 or visit the school at 438 Grove St., Brooklyn between 8 a.m and 3 p.m, Monday through Friday.
