Maspeth High celebrates big basketball and wrestling victories

The students, teachers and
coaches at Maspeth High School
have had plenty to cheer about
recently.
The boys varsity basketball team recently
captured an invitational tournament
at nearby Martin Luther School.
They’ve just started playing regular
season ball in the PSAL Division B, and
the Argonauts are also off to a hot start.
Under the leadership of coach
Daniel Franchese, the boys are 4-0 on
the season. In their most recent game,
on Dec. 11, they walloped Energy
Tech High School 89-24. Jaden Llano,
Andrew Stacey, Omar Jamaleddine,
Luca Tamer and Kami Wojtowicz each
scored double-digit points, while the
Maspeth defense held Energy Tech to
less than 10 points in each of the four
quarters.
The Argonauts played at home
against Frank Sinatra School for the
Arts on Wednesday, Dec. 13; the score
was unavailable at press time. They
have two more home games coming
up: on Dec. 20 against Newcomers
high school and on Jan. 4 against the
Academy of American Studies.
Meanwhile, the Maspeth High boys
varsity wrestling team captured three
gold medals during a recent tournament.
