Woodside man and his service dog punched on Bronx subway A 30-year-old Woodside man and his service dog were attacked on a 4 train going toward 161st St.-Yankee Stadium on Dec. 1, police said. The perpetrator, 40-year-old Herman Williams, who lives in the Fordham Hill Oval apartments in the Bronx, demanded that the man and his dog move over to make space for him on a subway seat. Williams was angered when the duo did not make enough room, police said, and he punched the dog in the head. The dog’s owner stood up after the altercation only to get punched in the face himself, according to authorities. The punch knocked out three of his teeth, the Daily News reported. NYPD transit cops caught Williams at the scene and found two marijuana cigarettes and four bags of marijuana on him. He was charged with assault, menacing, unlawful possession of marijuana and harassment, officials said. Queens residents arrested in citywide housing benefit fraud sting The New York City Department of Investigation arrested four Queens residents in a citywide sting on Dec. 4 for allegedly obtaining housing assistance fraudulently. Richmond Hill residents Deonandan Singh and Tarametee Singh, Jamaica resident Susan Jarrett and Queens resident Ethel Evans were arrested with 13 other individuals from surrounding boroughs in a housing fraud sweep that took place over the last five weeks. The schemes involved collecting public housing subsidies for a section apartment while illegally renting out the apartment to a friend and residing elsewhere. Under Section 8 rules, it is illegal to collect subsidies and fail to report the income and presence of spouses and friends. The DOI has been working with prosecutors such as the Queens District Attorney and the Office of the City Comptroller on these investigations. 106th Precinct South Central Queens
