Blau Weiss Gottschee soccer is on
a roll, on the road.
First, the BWG 2009 Blue team
took home fi rst place in the SUSA invitational
indoor tournament. They
defeated LI Premiere twice, both by 2-1
scores, as well as Valencia and Simply
Sports en route to the top prize.
The BWG 2008 and 2007 teams
traveled to Beachside, CT, to play two
games. Both 2008 Blue and White
teams won their games convincingly
to close up their fall league campaign.
As for the 2007 squad, the Blue team
won their game 2-0, while the White
team tied 3-3.
At the winter USSDA Showcase
down in Florida, the U19 academy team
went undefeated winning all three
games. The boys displayed some excellent
soccer skills in winning three
straight games over the Dallas Texans
7-0; Minnesota Thunder 3-0; and SVSA
California 3-2.
Closer to home, the BW Gottschee
men’s team faced off against their division
rivals, the Shamrocks 1960, at
St Michael’s Playground in the third
round of the State Cup. The game was a
hard fought cup match, with Gottschee
edging the Shamrocks 1-0 on a goal
from Greg Davis.
The Man of the Match was
Gottschee U17 coach Glenn Whelan;
he closed down the forward line of
the Shamrocks, splitting his time
between center back and holding
midfi elder.
Finally, the BWG 2006 youngest
academy teams completed their fall
season against NYSC at Juniper Valley
Park. The Blue and the White team
played to a 1-1 draw. Luca Fignoli and
Gabriel Feldman scored the goals for
their teams.
The youngest academy group is getting
ready to travel to their showcase
in Florida next week.
