According to Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, leader of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, the funds raised will help nearly 6,000 students from low-income families attend a Catholic school or academy in the diocese. More than 800 guests attended and heard remarks from Bishop DiMarzio and Msgr. Jamie Gigantello, vicar for development of the diocese. Students from the St. Mark Catholic Academy performed for the crowd along with singers Daniel Rodriguez and Stephanie Hanvey. Juliet Papa of WINS-AM 1010 News radio served as mistress of ceremonies. Several prominent supporters were also honored by the fund, including Louis C. Grassi, president and CEO of Grassi & Co.; Louis S. Milo, president of Milrose Consultants; and John A. Loconsolo, executive vice president of Locon Realty Corp.
