Cops nab robbers for
home invasion
BY ROBERT POZARYCKI
RPOZARYCKI@RIDGEWOODTIMES.COM
Two Brooklyn men remain locked up on
high bail after allegedly invading a Ridgewood
man’s apartment and pistol-whipping
him last week.
Law enforcement sources said Mahmoud
Khalil, 21, and Zinious Gill, 20, paid an unwelcome
visit to the man’s home on Fairview
Avenue near Harman Street at about 11:46 p.m.
on Oct. 2.
According to a criminal complaint that the
Queens District Attorney’s office provided,
Khalil and Gill allegedly banged on the rear
window of the first-floor apartment, then came
around to the front door and started kicking it.
The victim relented and opened the door; Khalil
and Gill then pushed their way inside.
Police said that Khalil allegedly pointed a
black pistol at the victim’s face, then struck him
with the gun, causing a laceration across the
cheek. Gill allegedly held the victim at bay while
Khalil went through the apartment looking for
property.
Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to
a call at the location; upon seeing the officers arriving
outside, authorities said, the victim ran
to the front door and opened it for the officers.
Seconds later, the complaint noted, the officers
observed and apprehended Khalil and
Gill inside of the victim’s apartment. They recovered
from inside a closet a black 9mm pistol
that Khalil allegedly used to assault the victim.
Also found in Khalil’s possession, prosecutors
said, were two debit cards in the victim’s
name, $173 in cash and several plastic bags containing
quantities of marijuana and alprazolam
(Xanax) tablets.
Khalil and Gill were charged with first-degree
robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree
armed robbery, criminal possession of
a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled
substance and criminal possession of stolen
property.
