6 TIMES • OCTOBER 6, 2016 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com Tragedy in Ridgewood Friends raise funds to pay for Ridgewood BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] @A_GiudiceReport Friends and loved ones of Carolyn Bush, the 25-year-old woman who was stabbed to death inside of her Ridgewood apartment on Sept. 28, have joined together to start a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs of her funeral. Bush’s friend and former roommate, Masha Mitkov, created a campaign on the murder victim’s funeral popular crowdsourcing website GoFundMe, to help raise the funds. “It is very hard for me to process and write about this right now. I used to live with Carolyn in Red Hook, NY, and was deeply affected by her presence,” Mitkov wrote on the GoFundMe page. “She was one of those friends that each time I would see her, it was as if no time had passed, and we could pick up at any conversation as we pleased. Coco, you are missed by a sea of anguished people.” Since the campaign was created on Sept. 30, 100 people have raised $3,260, with donations ranging from $10 to $200. Bush was a student at the New School and was working toward a degree in literary theory before tragedy struck. She also co-founded and served on the managing board of Wendy’s Subway, a nonprofi t library and writing space located at 379 Bushwick Ave. According to the Wendy’s Subway website, the library and writing spaces hosts a range of programs, including interdisciplinary readings and screenings, talks, lectures, discussions, reading groups, writing workshops, as well as free courses. “Carolyn’s family also asks that people consider supporting her collective in New York at Wendy’s Subway to keep the legacy and love of literature,” Mitkov wrote. The man accused of murdering Bush, Render Stetson-Shanahan, was arrested and charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and two counts of criminal mischief. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted. To make a donation to Bush’s fundraiser, visit https://www. gofundme.com/2s2fcnhf.
