In conjunction with the Diocese of Brooklyn’s Generations of Faith Campaign — a campaign established to raise at least $80 million to strengthen the Diocese’s 187 parishes — St. Margaret’s parishioners have pledged over $1 million in funds, surpassing their goal of $740,000. “In the campaign, which is being run in each parish, a portion of what is pledged and collected by parishioners is brought back to the parish for local projects,” Monsignor Steven Aguggia said. “So we will be getting new pews in the church, and at the same time we are going to redo the floor of the church. We did very well, the parishioners are always very generous in St. Margaret’s.” According to Aguggia, the last time new pews were installed in the church was close to two decades ago, and since that time they have seen plenty of use. “In those 20 years they’ve taken a bit a beating, so there was a great need for the new pews,” Aguggia said. “It’s important because if the pews took a beating it means people are coming and it is important the church looks beautiful and is comfortable for the people using them. In one St. Margaret’s Church in Middle Village will be closed during August for pew and floor renovations. way that’s a good thing, it shows that people are there.” As the church is undergoing renovations during the month of August, the space will be closed and the Masses will have to be moved to a different location. Weekday Masses (Monday through Saturday morning) will take place in the convent chapel. Aguggia admits that the new locations will be a little cramped for church-goers, but asks for understanding during the one-month construction period. The church is set to reopen on Sept. 1, barring any unforeseen setbacks.
