Members of the St. Margaret’s/Resurrection Ascension Flyers track team are pictured holding trophies earned during a successful 2013-14 season. Altogether the team broke four CYO records. These included the girl’s junior 1200 meter relay with a 3:49.1 time by runners Alyssa Lynaugh, Ainare Higgins, Emer Sheridan, and Karolina Niepokoj, girls junior runner Karolina Niepokoj for the 800 meter with a time of 2:39.8, the novice boys 600 medley runners Evan Sheridan, Shane Rooney, Andrew Kelly, and Kevin Girdusky with a time of 1:57.9. and bantam Seamus Girdusky with a time of 2:44.3 in the 800 meter. The Flyers also had several athletes win Diocesan Championships this season. Two team parents were given appreciation awards for their contributions of time during the past TIMES, THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 2014 • 62 season; they were Jeff Bolger and Teresa Hubert. Team coaches Dennis, Mark and Mike also honored each team member with distinctive participation awards. Four special awards were given out to honor several team members. This year’s recipients of the Super Spirit Award were Brian Kelly and Nina Allen. The Terrific Teammate Award went to Kasper Niepokoj and Keri Ann Koenig. The Excellent Effort awards were given to Caira Roche and John Bolger. Finally, the Fantastic Flyer Awards were given to Alyssa Lynaugh and Ricky Hubert. The Flyers track team will be taking the summer off and begin practicing again on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8 a.m. at the Juniper Valley Park Track. Registration will also be taking place on that day. OLH Girls Win Diocese Softball Crown The Our Lady of Hope girls seventh-grade softball team won the CYO Brooklyn–Queens Intermediate Championship game, played at Msg. McClancy Memorial High School in Jackson Heights on Saturday, June 21 between the seventh-grade and eighth-grade girls teams from the Middle Village School. The seventh-grade team played in the eighth-grade division this year and won their fourth consecutive championship with a stunning 3-2 win in extra innings. Winning pitcher Nicole Werner had seven strikeouts en route to her 13th win of the season. The team ended the season with a 16-1 record overall. The team is pictured after their win.
