The group’s president, Frank Kotnik, stated his disappointment about membership, especially pertaining to a recent barbecue held for members that saw a very low turnout. Currently, 104COP has 67 members, out of some 170,000 residents in the 104th Precinct, according to Kotnik. -SEE 104COP ON PG. 55- by Matthew Van Deventer Thieves focused on vehicles in the 112th Precinct this past month, leaving vehicles on cinder blocks or stealing them altogether, according to the force’s commander who spoke during the 112th Precinct Community Council meeting last Wednesday, June 18 at the precinct’s Forest Hills stationhouse. The week of June 9 saw a 50 percent spike in auto-related crimes, including four auto break-ins and five auto thefts, explained Capt. Thomas Conforti, the 104th Precinct’s commanding officer. Perpetrators are targeting 2012-2014 Honda Civics for their upgraded rims and tires -SEE 112TH COUN ON PG. 55- RIDGEWOOD SCHOOL HONORS CHESS STARS Chess wizards at P.S. 81 in Ridgewood were recently honored for winning the school’s annual chess tournament. It was the seventh year the school hosted a competition among pupils under the supervision of Arthur D. Seeger and Don Powers. This year, 110 students participated in the tournament, and the winners earned certificates as well as a chess book and a magnetic travel chess set.
