The GWDC recognized a number of prominent individuals in the neighborhood, including Frank Castelli, owner of Beat the Clock Printing (Man of the Year); Christine Ward, a retired teacher from P.S. 97 (Woman of the Year); Eleanor Errante (Community Activist Award); and Sgt. Joseph DeMarco of the 102nd Precinct and Deputy Chief Keith Maisel of the Sanitation Department (Special Recognition Honors). Each of the recipients were congratulated by GWDC President Stephen Esposito and Executive Director Maria Thomson. State Senator Michael Gianaris, who represents part of western Woodhaven, was among the guests. Sweet times at Ridgewood Strawberry Festival RIDGEWOOD TIMES/Photos by Robert Pozarycki From classic cars on display to free strawberry shortcake, there was something for everyone to enjoy during the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society’s strawberry festival on June 13 at the landmark Vander Ende-Onderdonk House. Scores turned out to participate in the event, which included a classic car show from the East Coast Car Association, magic tricks from Bobo the Hobo, arts and crafts, tours of the Onderdonk House and a pie-eating contest.
