The win is especially impressive since P.S. 71 does not have a gym or professional mats for the kids to train. The P.S. 71 Owls are now heading to UCA cheerleading camp this summer located in Pennsylvania. The camp will be a lifelong memorable experience for the team and will help prepare them to go for a Nationals bid to attend Walt Disney World next year. BWG started the game hot by putting a lot of pressure on Oyster Bay right from the kickoff . The fast start paid off for BWG as both Jodi Campoverde and Rohan Bruneau hit the crossbar in consecutive shots before Sebastian Silvia was able to beat the Oysters Bay keeper and put BWG on the scoreboard with an early 1-0 lead. The Royals continued to apply pressure throughout the fi rst half, but were unable to breakdown the physical backs from Oyster Bay. In the second half, BWG's George Granda scored off of a rebound coming from a free kick taken by Enzo Bazurto, putting BWG up 2-0. Oyster Bay then began putting the pressure to BWG. BWG’s keeper Giacomo Faccioli had to make a huge save to preserve his team’s lead. Oyster Bay, however, wouldn’t go down without a fi ght as one of their players was able to get away from the Gottschees defenders (Walter Quizhpe, Christopher Rogan, and Sebastian Silvia) who kept him in check the entire game, and drilled a shot past Faccioli into the top corner with three minutes remaining in regulation time. A fl urry of missed chances from the Royals in the fi nal frantic minutes of the game could have put the game to rest, but were able to hold onto the 2-1 win. BWG will now face Port Washington in the State Cup Finals in the coming weeks. In other BWG news, the U12 Girls team won the East Fishkill Memorial Day Tournament U12 Division over the Memorial Day weekend. BWG beat FC Somers (2-1), AJAX NJ (4-3), and Chappaqua (6-0).
