16 JUNE 1, 2017 RIDGEWOOD TIMES WWW.QNS.COM Local Memorial Day marches paid tribute BY THE RIDGEWOOD TIMES STAFF [email protected] @RIDGEWOODTIMES The streets of Ridgewood, Maspeth and other Queens neighborhoods swelled with veterans, youth group members and elected officials this weekend at a number of Memorial Day parades honoring the sacrifices of America’s armed forces. Memorial Day weekend serves as the unofficial start of summer, and even though the weather felt more like autumn, that didn’t stop hundreds of people from turning out at each march to applaud those who served in defense of our country. Veterans posts across Queens participated in each of the marches along with various youth groups, community organizations and elected of ficials. Spectators proudly waved American flags and cheered on the parade participants as they marched. Pouring rain couldn’t stop participants at the Ridgewood-Glendale Memorial Day Parade along Myrtle Avenue on May 29. The marchers received the applause of the hearty folks who stuck it out through the weather to thank both veterans and active service members for their contributions to our freedom.
