According to police, Henry Bernal, 34, was in an argument with his 14-year-old daughter over her cell phone on Thursday, May 25. Following the argument, police say that Bernal whacked his daughter with his belt. Police did not disclose Bernal’s address, only stating that he lives within the 104th Precinct‘s confi nes. Offi cers from the Ridgewood-based precinct responded to the scene at 9:30 p.m. Thursday night. Following an investigation, offi cers arrested Bernal on charges of assault, acting in manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon. According to police, the violence occurred at 11:21 p.m. on May 24 in the rear of a building at 128 Moore St. Sources familiar with the investigation said that a number of individuals were loitering at the location when the unidentifi ed shooter came on the scene; images of the suspect were captured by nearby surveillance camera. Shots rang out moments later, police said, and the group quickly dispersed. The 29-year-old man, however, wasn’t able to get away, as he was shot several times in his chest and legs. Officers from the 90th Precinct, NYPD PSA 3 (which patrols the Bushwick Houses) and EMS units responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about the shooting. The victim was rushed to Kings County Medical Center, where he later died; his identity was withheld pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.
