Begin with Mother’s Day Nature Facials at Alley Pond Environmental Center on Saturday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. For $42 a pair, progenies can cleanse, soft en and rejuvenate their skin while getting some bonding time with their progenitors. Dubbed “a natural facials class,” tranquil music and scented candles create a relaxing atmosphere at this Douglaston venue for the application of “liberating” products such as mint, honey, cucumbers, bananas, crushed oats and egg whites. Of course, a healthy snack and beverage are included. The next event starts at 7:30 p.m., when Flushing Town Hall hosts a chamber opera entitled “From My Mother’s Mother.” Admission price is $10, but all moms can attend for free. In the Korean tradition, mothers prepare seaweed soup for their daughters to assist in post-natal recovery. Performed in English with English and Korean subtitles, this production deals with reconciliation aft er a lovingly prepared broth is rejected. Attendees can expect a soprano, two mezzo sopranos, a baritone, a conductor, a moderator, and even a gayageum, a traditional, Korean, guitar-like string instrument. The American Princess ferry company is off ering a Mother's Day Cruise with brunch at 11:30 a.m. Aft er taking off from Riis Landing in Rockaway's Breezy Point, voyagers will spend three hours looking for whales and dolphins in the Atlantic Ocean while munching on everything from quiche to tortellini to muffi ns. A qualifi ed NYC Parks Dept. volunteer docent takes the crowd through – and explains the stories behind -- the Unisphere, New York State Pavilion, New York Hall of Science, Queens Zoo Aviary, the Carousel, Time Capsules, Underground Home, and other hot spots.
