At the event, which featured eight amateur bouts and three professional fights, The FDNY Bravest Boxing team faced off against the Garda Siochana team for the third time, each side winning once prior. This time it was the FDNY Bravest who got the best of the Irish National Police force, winning seven out of the eight contests, and winning the 2015 Transatlantic Championship. In the first professional fight of the evening, super middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (20-1, 13 KO’s), from Cork, Ireland, beat Milton Nunez (28-13-1, 25 KO’s) in three rounds. In the evening’s main event, Irish Featherweight contender, Patrick “The Punisher” Hyland, of Dublin, Ireland, faced off against southpaw, Manuel “De Los Reyes” Herrera. Hyland was the aggressor the entire bout and broke down any offense Herrera tried to mount. At 1:04 into the fourth round, Hyland landed an uppercut to the midsection and floored Herrera for a full 10-count, earning the victory. With the win Hyland increased his record 30-1 with 14 KO’s, and Herrera fell to 21-16-1 with 15 KO’s. Junior at Christ the King plays at national polo competition Christopher Jordan in his polo gear. Photo courtesy of Christ the King High School By Anthony Giudice agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport Christ the King junior Christopher Jordan just came back from Houston, Texas, on March 15 after competing in the United States Polo Association’s (USPA) national competition. Jordan, 17, of Ozone Park, currently plays for the Long Island-based Country Farms interscholastic polo team, which is ranked seventh in the nation. At the competition, Jordan’s team was knocked out in the first round. This would have been the end of Jordan’s time at the competition, but he was approached by the El Dorado polo team from California to captain their team since they were down a rider. Jordan got the approval from his Country Farms team to play for El Dorado, and he led them to a second place finish in the competition. Jordan has been riding horses since he was 3 and loves anything that has to do with horses. Aside from competing in polo matches, Jordan is an accomplished equestrian. He is a hunter jumper with the Metropolitan Equestrian Jumping Team.“He is proud to be an equestrian,” said Scott Jordan, Christopher’s father. “He is a very nice kid and an excellent athlete.” Jordan began playing polo since he was 14 and has grown into one of the country’s top players. Last year Jordan was honored with the USPA Linford Award for being the most improved player for the 2014-15 season. “Christopher offers an example of the diversified talents students at Christ the King have,” Christ the King Principal Peter Mannarino said. “We are proud of Christopher’s accomplishments and look forward to his continued success.”Christopher Jordan is being scouted by several colleges across the country, including Texas A&M and the University of Miami. “He has surely surpassed what we would have wanted in a child,” Scott Jordan said. “We are completely behind his dreams and we are willing to do whatever we have to do to help him live his dream.”
