Pedestrian dies after
being struck by van
Trying to cross a busy Ridgewood
street in the middle of the block proved
deadly for a Flushing man aft er he
was fatally struck by a van, police
announced on Thursday.
Law enforcement sources said
Ping Chung, 57, of 134th Street was
fatally injured while walking across
Flushing Avenue between Woodward
and Metropolitan Avenues at 8 a.m. on
Feb. 19.
According to information obtained
by police, Chung was attempting to
cross Flushing Avenue from south to
north when he was struck by a 2013
Ford van, operated by a 31-year-old man,
moving eastbound on the roadway.
The driver stopped his vehicle aft er
realizing he had hit the man.
Offi cers from the 104th Precinct and
EMS units responded to a 911 call about
the incident. Upon their arrival, cops
found Chung with trauma to his head.
Paramedics rushed Chung to
Elmhurst Hospital, where he was
pronounced dead. An autopsy
conducted by the Medical Examiner’s
offi ce on Feb. 20 found that Chung died
of complications from the injuries he
sustained in the collision.
No charges have been fi led against
the driver, police said. The case
has been presented to the NYPD
Collision Investigation Squad for
further examination.

REGO PARK
Cab driver fatally
runs down woman
Police are still investigating the
death of a 26-year-old pedestrian who
was struck and killed in a hit-and-run
insiden on Sunday aft ernoon.
Officers from the 112th Precinct
responded to a 911 call at 4:06 p.m. on
Feb. 24 regarding a woman who was
struck at the intersection of 63rd Drive
and Queens Boulevard.
EMS also arrived at the scene and
transported the victim, identifi ed as
Sherena Hundalani of 98th Street in
Rego Park, to Elmhurst Hospital, where
she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation found

that Hundalani was walking on the
sidewalk near 63rd Road when the
Lincoln exited a gas station at the
corner and hit her.
Police said the vehicle left the scene
and headed westbound on Queens
Boulevard before being stopped
in the vicinity of 62nd Drive and
Junction Boulevard.
The driver of the 2005 Lincoln Town
Car, a 55-year-old man, was taken into
custody for questioning. His identity
was not immediately disclosed, but the
Daily News reports he is a cab driver
and was released from custody hours
aft er the the incident.
The green cab’s medallion is
registered to Lakhvinder Singh,
according to city records.
An NYPD spokesman couldn’t
immediately say if the driver was
issued a summons and said the case is
still under investigation, according to
the Daily News report.
