R’wood burglar cut hole in apt. wall to steal stuff

Detectives arrested an upstate
man last week who allegedly
burglarized a Ridgewood
apartment building nearly a year ago,
breaking into one residence and cutting
a hole through the wall in order
to enter a neighboring unit.
A suspect has been arrested for stealing
items from a Ridgewood apartment
nearly a year aft er residents reported
seeing a hole in their wall shared with
the adjacent apartment and discovered
valuables missing.
Jordan Rohoman, 23, of New Paltz,
New York was taken into custody on
Jan. 22 for the incident in which he took
jewelry and electronics from an apartment
in the vicinity of Seneca Avenue
and Woodbine Street on Feb. 22, 2018.
According to the criminal complaint
that the Queens District Attorney’s
offi ce provided, four people shared
the apartment at the time. One of
the residents told police she left her
apartment on the morning of Feb. 22,
2018, and came home to fi nd a hole in
the wall leading to the adjacent unit.
Three bracelets, two necklaces and
a Sony laptop were reported missing,
court document said.
The woman told her roommates
about the occurrence and they reported
laptops and jewelry missing as well,
the complaint noted.
In viewing video surveillance from
the scene, authorities said, Rohoman was
observed pulling on the front door of the
building before going down a set of stairs
and entering through the basement door
with a backpack and a bicycle. Rohoman
was allegedly able to enter through the
back door of the apartment occupied by
the building manager, which is next door
to the victim’s apartment.
From there, Rohoman was able to get
in through the apartment’s back door
aft er touring the side of the building
and knocking on the door.
The footage allegedly shows Rohoman
making two trips into and out of
the building, while toting a duff el bag
between about 4 p.m. and 4:46 p.m.

on Feb. 22, 2018. During his second
trip, the complaint noted, he was seen
carrying the duff el, a tote bag and an
over-the-shoulder bag.
Rohoman was charged by the
104th Precinct Detective Squad with
burglary, criminal mischief and
trespassing. He was ordered held on
$50,000 following arraignment, and
must return to court on Feb. 20, court
records indicated.
Cop dies after shooting self in
head at M.V. home

The 40-year-old, off -duty police
offi cer who was found with a
gunshot wound to his head in
Middle Village on Friday aft ernoon
has died, it was reported.
Offi cers from the 104th Precinct
responded to a 911 call about a man
shot in the neighborhood at about
2:29 p.m. on Jan. 25. The New York
Daily News reported that the offi cers
went to a home in the vicinity of 69th
Lane and Juniper Boulevard South;

the NYPD declined to provide the
specifi c location.
Upon arriving at the home, they found
the wounded officer; based on a preliminary
investigation, the officers believe
the head wound was self-inflicted.
Paramedics rushed the cop to a local
hospital, where he’s currently listed
in critical condition. The Daily News
reported on Saturday that the offi cer
had succumbed to his injuries; he was
identifi ed by sources as Nicholas Mencaroni,
40, who joined the force in 2004
and was assigned to a Queens precinct.
The investigation is ongoing.
