It is gratifying for us to be in first place this year. It is the first time, in our short two season history, we have accomplished this mark,” Coach Anthony Alfaro said. “We have to keep up the hard work and intensity for the rest of the season. Our conference will be gunning for us in our conference playoffs.” The next contest pits LAGCC against Hostos Community College in the final game in the CUNYAC. That game will take place today, Jan. 29, at “The Nest” in LAGCC at 6 p.m. If the Lady Red Hawks are victorious they will be guaranteed at least a tie for first place at the end of the CUNYAC season. With three games remaining on the schedule, the boys and coach Anastasia Bitis are looking forward to the upcoming challenge of the playoffs. “We will be a top-seed team and we will definitely have some home court advantage,” coach Bitis said. “We are working on fine tuning our offense and defense and we are streamlining our mind sets and refocusing for playoffs. We believe that we will have a very good post-season.” Maspeth High School is a full three games ahead of their closest competition in the Queens B West Division, Metropolitan Campus, which boasts a 12-3 record. Maspeth High School looks to keep its perfect season alive with their next game will taking place on Friday, Jan. 29, against Baccalaureate School For Global Education at Long Island City YMCA at 4:30 p.m. U13 BWG Boys Win In Boston The Blue Weiss Gottschee 2001 pre-academy team traveled to Boston to compete in the Northeast Regional Futsal Championship. Playing with split squads, the U13 team won the championship and the U14 lost in the semifinals on penalties. The U13 group is on their way to the USA National Futsal Championship in Florida.
