Sports Stars Shine Bright In Maspeth Hundreds came to O’Neill’s Restaurant in Maspeth on Sunday, Jan. 25, for the “New York Champions for St. Jude” fundraiser in which guests got a chance to meet and greet some of the city’s biggest sports legends. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, which provides pediatric cancer care to families across the nation. Among the notable sports stars who participated in the event were Brian Leetch, member of the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers; former New Jersey Net Kenny Anderson, who played for Briarwood’s Archbishop Molloy High School; and former New York Mets and Yankees pitcher David Cone. The three stars are pictured with George O’Neill, the restaurant’s proprietor. (photos: Marcin Zurawiczx) Emerging Artist Award Is Coming To Queens Providing Art For LIC and will stay for one year. Previous blood drives that the church held generated numerous pints provided to local medical centers to treat patients in need of blood transfusions. One local resident, Hildegard Martingat, is shown in the left photo doing her part. Members of the parish’s blood drive committee are pictured in the right photo.
