Jailed For His Dirty Deeds At Laundry Acted Lewd Across Brooklyn Lowell Britt, 29, of East Third Avenue in Bay Shore pled guilty last month to persistent sexual abuse, forcible touching, secondand third-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, public lewdness, exposure and harassment. During sentencing on Tuesday, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice ordered Britt—already serving a three-year jail term for a conviction in a similar Queens case—to serve three years in prison and 15 years’ probation. Britt must also register as a sex offender upon release, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson. “Britt degraded and violated innocent women and young girls repeatedly with his lewd, vile and reprehensible conduct, which will affect his victims for years to come,” Thompson said in a statement Tuesday. “Fortunately, he’s off the streets now and in prison, where he belongs.” Law enforcement sources said Britt’s lewd streak took place between July 2010 and March 2013, when he approached and exposed himself to eight victims at laundromats in Canarsie and Brownsville. Two of the incidents reportedly occurred in Bushwick on Mar. 18, 2012, when Britt rubbed and exposed himself to two sisters, ages 13 and 15, at one laundromat; and masturbated in front of a 13-year-old girl at another location. Members of the NYPD Brooklyn Special Victims Squad arrested Britt in April 2013 following an extensive investigation. Assistant District Attorneys Olatokunbo Olaniyan and Anna Krutaya of the DA’s Sex Crimes Bureau, which is supervised by Assistant District Attorney Coleen Balbert, prosecuted the case. TIMES, THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2015 • 8 by Robert Pozarycki A Long Island man is spending the next three years behind bars for sexually harassing and/or abusing numerous young women at laundromats in Bushwick, Brownsville and Canarsie over a four-year period, prosecutors announced on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Corona Residents Killed In New Year’s Eve Blaze by Robert Pozarycki Three family members died inside their LeFrak City apartment in Corona last Wednesday night, Dec. 31, 2014, in a two-alarm inferno that fire marshals believe was ignited by a cooking mishap, it was reported. Police identified the victims as Louise Jean-Charles, 59; her husband, Napoleon Michel, 69; and their cousin Nadia Donnay, 37, each of whom resided in a ninth-floor apartment at a 57th Avenue building. Law enforcement sources said the blaze broke out at about 11:46 p.m. last Wednesday night in the kitchen; according to published reports, one of the victims was preparing soup and left the pot unattended when something went wrong. Once the fire started, it was reported, flames quickly spread throughout the apartment. More than 100 firefighters from 25 Fire Department units along with the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Five firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries while battling the inferno. While searching the home, authorities stated, officers located the three victims, who were unconscious and under cardiac arrests. Other residents in the apartment house were safely evacuated and, after the fire was extinguished, allowed to return to their homes. Paramedics brought Jean- Charles and Donnay to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where they were pronounced dead on arrival; Michel died of his wounds after arriving at Forest Hills Hospital. According to reports, there were no working smoke detectors in the victims’ apartment. “It is beyond tragic to have lost this family because they did not have something as basic as a smoke alarm in their home,” City Council Member Julissa Ferreras said in a statement last Thursday, Jan. 1. “They were preparing for Corona Library Friends Officially Chartered The first Friends of the Corona Library were chartered on Monday Jan. 5.
