Check out a truly surreal fi lm making
its U.S. premiere at the Museum of the
Moving Image in Astoria. “Prototype,”
a 3-D Canadian fi lm directed by Blake
Williams, tells the story of a mysterious
televisual device built and tested as a
major storm strikes Texas in 1900. The
experimental sci-fi fi lm features various
optical manipulations and archival
material from the aftermath of the
Galveston hurricane that struck more
than 100 years ago. The fi lm is preceded
by a screening of several shorts. $20
