As you get older, caring for your health becomes more prevalent than ever. And to help give tips on ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle, The Queens Courier hosted a health expo for senior citizens. The expo took place at The North Shore Towers, located in Floral Park on October 30. It featured over twenty tables where seniors could find out more information regarding health care packages, get their blood pressure taken and also enjoy tasty treats. The expo was followed by a presentation by Dr. Mark Lachs, a geriatrics health care professional, who shared his knowledge with crowd. He focused his talk around his book, “Treat Me Not My Age,” which gives steps that he believes should be taken by all seniors. “You shouldn’t be told you have an ailment just because you are getting old and that there is nothing that could be done,” said Lachs. “It’s also important to keep a good network of friends. This has correlations with longevity and better health.” As Lachs concluded his presentation he gave advice he said all senior citizens must be aware of. “Perspectives about aging change the way we age,” he noted. “And still do not fail to plan for the future.” Seniors were also given lessons on some daily stretches and activities they should do to keep limber and their bones strong.
