BW Gottschee hosted an invitational
tournament on Nov. 25 at Brennan
Field in Middle Village, and both the
soccer and weather were of the highest
quality.
Th e 2007 squad (players born in that
year) kicked off the morning session
with fi ve teams competing in small
sided round robin fashion. Th e participating
clubs included FA Euro, Cold
Spring Harbor (LI based BWG partner
club), Brentwood, Oceanside and
BWG.
Goals were abundant, but the results
were all by narrow margins; three teams
fi nished tied for fi rst place overall. In
the end, however, BW Gottschee 07s
took home the fi rst place trophy for
having scored the most goals.
Meanwhile, the 2008 group kicked off
a highly anticipated aft ernoon session
with teams from Lake Grove, Kings
Park, Oceanside and BWG Blue and
White.
Th e BWG Whites and Blues very
comfortably maneuvered through their
opposition and found themselves in a
fi nal match against each other. In the
fi nal, Th e BWG White team beat the
Blue team to claim bragging rights as
tournament champions.
BW Gottschee thanked all the visiting
clubs, club personnel and parent volunteers
who made this soccer festival happen.
Th e organization also thanked referee
Emil Cohill for his eff orts to “let
the kids play” the game.
