Spider-Man movie set to begin fi lming in Astoria
Queensboro FC unveils offi cial team logo

Queensboro FC, the borough’s fi rst professional
men’s soccer team, unveiled its
offi cial club logo it prepares for its inaugural
season as a United Soccer League
franchise in March 2022. Th e logo was
inspired by the hallmark elements that
defi ne Queens’ unique character as a distinct
borough of New York City.
Oft en called “the diversity capital of the
world,” Queens consists of more than 100
square miles, 2.3 million residents,150
nationalities, 130 languages and 90 neighborhoods,
with soccer as its most popular
sport. With Queensborough FC, the
borough will now have a team that it can
call its own.
“We are making great progress every
day in bringing this club to life,”said
Queensboro FC Co-Founder David Villa,
a retired Spanish soccer legend and World
Cup Champion. “We have been approaching
the sporting side and the business
side with world-class vision and execution,
and we look forward to announcing
new developments in the coming months.
March 2022 can’t come soon enough, and
I look forward to being back in New York
to build and introduce this club to the
world.”
Th e squad is expected to feature a fi rstteam
roster that will be comprised of top
international recruits from around the
globe, select Queensboro FC Academy
players, and local New York-based talent.
As for the offi cial team logo, it features
a centerpiece “Q” symbolizing the
borough’s namesake and origin, and the
crown above the Queensboro FC logotype
represents the Queensboro Bridge,
and each of the 11 elements of the bridge
corresponds to the number of players on
a soccer fi eld.
“Queensboro FC’s logo unveiling is a
major step in bringing people together
across Queens, New York City and
the world through their love of soccer,
and to bring the championship mindset
back to our city,” said Queensboro FC
Co-Founder Jonathan Kane, the CEO of
KraneShares. “It has been a challenging
year, especially for New Yorkers, and our
club is dedicated to giving the Queens
community something special to look
forward to now. In more ways than sport,
New York will come back, because we
always play to win.”

Queens’ most famous hero is coming
home.
Filming notices posted in Astoria this
week slyly suggested that fi lming for the
third installment of the latest Spider-Man
franchise from Marvel Studios will begin
next week on 31st Avenue and 23rd Street.
Put on hold during the height of the
COVID-19 crisis, fi lming is set to begin
in the neighborhood on Th ursday, Oct.
15, from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Shooting will
continue on Friday, Oct. 16, from 6 a.m.
until 7 p.m.
Filming under the name “Serenity Now,”
a reference to another one of Queens’
native sons, Frank Costanza of “Seinfeld,”
the third Spider-Man movie follows in the
tradition of the previous two fi lms.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” fi lmed
under the working title “Summer of
George,” and “Spider-Man:Far From
Home” began fi lming under the title of
“Fall of George,” both of which were
names of Seinfeld episodes. Both the
Costanzas and Peter Parker hail from
Queens.
Th e fi ctional hero’s home at 20 Ingram
St., in Forest Hills, is also home to real
life coincidence. In 2002, TimesLedger
Newspapers reported the home was owned
byAndrew and Suzanne Parker, who share
a last name with the young hero. But
the strange connection didn’t end there.
Across the street lived Herbert Osborn and
Maxwell Osborne, who share a surname
with Spider-Man’s arch enemy, the Green
Goblin, also known as Norman Osborn.
Film and television production shut
down in New York City in March, as the
COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold.
It resumed in late July.
