22 The QUEE NS Courier • october 1, 2015 for breaking news visit www.queenscourier.com New York Presbyterian-Queens celebrates ribbon cutting in Flushing by ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@queenscourier.com @A_GiudiceReport Queens elected officials, doctors and management staff were on hand for the ribboncutting ceremony celebrating the rebranding of New York Hospital Queens as NewYork- Presbyterian Queens (NYP/ Queens) in Flushing on Monday night. New York Hospital Queens officially joined with New York/Presbyterian in July after being a member of the NYP Healthcare System for 22 years. The merger will help to bring state-of-the-art care for Queens residents. “NewYork-Presbyterian/ Queens is foremost a community regional hospital here to serve our diverse population of families in this borough of 2.4 million people,” said Stephen S. Mills, president and CEO of NYP/Q. “So today, we formally celebrate this golden opportunity as an integrated hospital system to tie together our extensive network of physicians and other independent practitioners through common information technology to provide the very best care to families here at home, in Queens.” The 535-bed hospital provides services in 14 clinical areas with a number of sub-specialties. The facility performs over 15,000 inpatient surgeries every year. In 2014 alone, nearly 127,000 patients were treated at the hospital’s emergency departments. “We wanted to make sure that we had a partner that really had the same values that NewYork- Presbyterian has: a commitment to a great quality of care, being focused on the patient, to be sensitive to cultural diversity and meeting the needs of the community,” said Laura Forese, M.D., M.PH., president of NYP Healthcare System. “And we could not have found a better partner than here at NewYork- Presbyterian/Queens.” In addition to the main facility, NYP/Queens has a farreaching network of more than 24 community-based health centers, as well as multi-specialty physician practices that extend throughout Queens. “We love the fact that NewYork-Presbyterian is here,” said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. “It is a great day, not only for the hospital, but for the entire borough of Queens.
