The expo, which is in its first year, saw over 50 participating vendors bring the latest in health, wellness and finance to the Queens community. Kids enjoyed free face painting and popcorn. Families learned about healthy eating by sampling salads created by Saladmaster. “It is a well put-together group of different things,” said Veronica Mackay, cosmetic consultant with Bodian Dermatology. “The response has been very good.” “More people from different areas now know about our company,” said Lynn Lin, a community outreach associate with Agewell New York. Jim Spera, director of marketing for Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology, which has clinics in Elmont and Lynbrook, said it is “wonderful” to be at the “wonderful forum.” “This is much better than I expected,” said Risako Yamamoto, an acupuncturist with Healing Hands of Bayside. “We’ve been to other events but this is much nicer, more organized.” Lina Scacco, director of corporate outreach and development at Parker Jewish Institute, said it was nice to see that families are interested in being educated about health. “Though we offer long-term care, we are seeing how these people visitors are trying to prevent these needs, but at the same time it is important to know what resources are available for the elderly parents, aunts and uncles,” said Scacco. “The expo gives every one a chance to see what’s there in a fun way.” Nicole Castriota, manager, Giorgio’s Salon and Spa, said it was a “privilege” to be at the expo. “The people who came over were very friendly,” said Castriota. “We got great feedback.” The expo offered vendors a chance to meet not only potential customers but also other vendors with whom they can collaborate. Vendors across the board — Annette Fisher of PESID, an organization helping seniors; Lakeisha Ward, owner JLTC Signature brand of cosmetics; and Eric Gerbert, associate attorney at Taub, Bogarty & Mellert PLLC, — agreed that it was a great networking opportunity. “I like the way the vendors were able to connect with each other,” said Gerbert. The expo also saw nonprofit organizations participating enthusiastically. The Queens Library reported that they enrolled several new members, while Domenica Davi, a volunteer with SHAREing & CAREing, an organization offering support to cancer survivors, said they reached out to “lots of young people.” Nicole L. Bernacet, executive director, Boro Pregnancy Counseling Center, said she had “quality interactions with those who stopped by.” Stuart Pena of the Hope Coalition agreed that “We were able to connect with the guests we talked to.” The event is sponsored by The Queens Courier, National Grid, AgeWell New York, AdvantageCare Physicians, Adirondack Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Advanced Cardiovascular Diagnostics, Giorgio’s Salon and Spa, Frankie’s Carnival Time, Parker Jewish Institute, Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology, Mt. Sinai Queens, Saladmaster and New York Life. The expo was organized by The Queens Courier. Look for our Senior Health Expo at North Shore Towers on Oct. 30.
