This weekend the popular Long Island City flea market, located at the outdoor lot on the corner of Fifth Street and 46th Avenue, will begin its Oktoberfest celebrations. To start the festivities, the LIC Flea will have a pumpkin patch with pumpkins straight from the farm. Oktoberfest beers will be available from the local breweries at the LIC Flea Beer Garden, which is set up along the basin in the back of the market with views of the Manhattan skyline and outdoor seating. Beer selections come from SingleCut Beersmiths, Queens Brewery, Finback Brewery and Rockaway Brewing Company. Some LIC Flea vendors will also be featuring special menu items just in time for the celebrations. Vendor Oconomi will be offering Japanese Berkshire pork kurobuta sausage with Karashi (Japanese mustard). The Chia Jar will have a harvest pumpkin spice chia jar and carrot cake chia jar. Frittering Away will be offering a non-alcoholic gluhwein (mulled pomegranate) and Petalouda Bakery will have a coconut farina cake “revani.” Another special menu item will be an “Oktoberbratbeercheesefest” hand pie from Love. Grit.Cook. It is a stuffed pie with locally made bratwurst from Ridgewood’s Morscher’s Pork Store, Gruyere, cheddar and beer cheese sauce, caramelized onions and a crunchy pretzel crust. It will be served with a schmear of beer mustard. Finally, vendor Sweet Muse will offer special edition brownies such as stout fudge brownie, beer and pretzel brownie, and pumpkin swirl fudge brownie. LIC Flea & Food is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will run through the end of the year. The LIC Flea Beer Garden is open during the hours of operation of the flea market. The day will feature presentations by our administration and admissions office, as well as give Prep the opportunity to unveil its brand new, state-of-the-art Science labs. These labs represent the next step in Prep’s continued improvements that started with a complete upgrade in the school’s infrastructure, a new Physical Education/Fitness center, expanded student cafeteria space, and a new Visual Arts Education wing. Prep’s Music Department will also be on full display, with performances by our Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, and Chamber Orchestra, all recently returned from a concert tour in London (our fourth international tour in ten years). In addition to individualized presentations by all our academic departments (eleven in total), all our clubs and activities will be represented. These clubs run the gamut from ethnic to academic to faith-based to hobbies. There is something for everyone at Prep, and if we don’t have it, we’ll start it! And if that weren’t enough, visitors to the Prep will be exposed to our extensive and storied athletic program, featuring nearly 60 teams and sports-related activities. Each and every administrator, faculty member, members of our Parents’ Guild, our 1:1 iPad Program Director, and upwards of 200 students will be on hand to offer presentations and tours, and answer all your questions. There will also be staff members on hand to specifically discuss more seminal concerns, such as academic requirements and tuition assistance. The day promises to be a great one, and is a one that we at Prep always look forward to in terms of sharing all our community has to offer with you. Please call our Director of Admissions, Lisa Schaefer at (718) 423- 8810, x264 with any questions you might have. Prep student march in St. Patrick’s Day Parade Athletics at The Prep ADVERTORIAL
