Joe Petrosino Gala At the annual event, held in Russo’s on the Bay in memory of the respected Lt. Det. Joe Petrosino (1860-1909), who was the pioneer officer creating the bomb squad, the canine squad and the undercover squad. He served at the same time as Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt. He was the only NYPD officer killed abroad, and 250,000 people attended his funeral to pay their respects to a tireless, fearless fighter of organized crime. This year’s fundraiser, $10,000 was raised for students at St. John’s University. The award winners were NYS Lt. Governor Hon. Robert Duffy; Chief of Intelligence Thomas Galati; Lt. Det. Mark Torre; Mitchell Weiss, chief, clergy/community liaison; NYPD retiree Vincent DeVitto; actor Robert Davi; Michael Ricatto, president of Ricatto Enterprises; retired NYS Supreme Court Justice John Walsh and Hon. George Tsunis. Jim Lisa, president of the association, acted as host.
