Police responded to a call at about 2:52 a.m. on Fresh Pond Road between 60th Drive and Elliot Avenue where they found Karoll Grzegorczyk unconscious with trauma on his body, lying on the road. Grzegorczyk was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to the NYPD. Further investigation showed that Grzegorczyk was walking on Fresh Pond Road when mid-block he entered the street between parked cars, police said. The Ridgewood resident was then struck by a dark-colored sedan, which fled the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. 109th Precinct Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace Suspect snatches necklace from wheelchair-bound 50-year-old in Flushing: cops Police are looking for a suspect who stole from a wheelchairbound man as he sat on a Flushing street. The 50-year-old victim was on Franklin Avenue near Bowne Street at about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 11 when the suspect placed his hand on the victim’s shoulder and grabbed a chain from his neck, cops said. Photo courtesy of NYPD Ambulette fatally strikes bicyclist in Flushing A man riding his bike in Flushing was killed when he was hit by a private ambulette, according to police. As the ambulette was driving southbound on Parsons Boulevard at about 9:50 a.m., on Aug. 13, it struck the bicyclist as he made a left turn onto 37th Avenue from the opposite direction of the boulevard, cops said. The bicyclist, identified as 71-year-old Guo Lin, was taken to New York Hospital Queens by EMS, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made. 115th Precinct East Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights Police release video of suspect in Corona murder Cops have released footage of a suspect who is wanted for knifing a man to death in Corona earlier this month. On the night of his murder, Aug. 3, officers found Fabian Carreno, 30, at about 2:15 a.m. lying on the corner of 97th Street and Northern Boulevard with slash wounds to his face and neck, police said. The suspect and Carreno were allegedly arguing when he was attacked. Carreno, a Woodside resident, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Terrell Hill, 31, of Jamaica, posted an ad on Craigslist, pretending to be the homeowner of a Valley Stream residence, and rented the Photo courtesy of Nassau County Police Department place to two women, authorities said. He charged the pair $1,500 as a down payment, but when the rightful homeowner came to check on the residence on Aug. 13 and found the women, the cops were called. The same day, Hill went to the home to collect more money from the renters and was arrested. Police said they later discovered Hill also rented another unoccupied residence, a home in Elmont, to a woman on Aug. 1. Again, he pretended to be the homeowner, and collected $3,800 from the renter. Hill has been charged with grand larceny and burglary. Anyone who believes they may have also been victimized by Hill should call 516-573-6453. Suspect charged with hate crime in Ozone Park hit-and-run of Sikh man A 55-year-old Long Island man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly called another man “Osama” before intentionally running him over and dragging him several feet before fleeing, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. Joseph Caleca is awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on charges of attempted murder as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime and leaving the scene without reporting. “The defendant is accused of an unprovoked attack that allegedly began with the defendant driving by the victim and his friends and yelling out a vile anti-Muslim insult,” Brown said. “After an exchange of words, the defendant allegedly struck the victim intentionally with his vehicle and dragged his body along the street.” On July 30, the victim, 29-year-old Sandeep Singh, was standing at the intersection of 101st Avenue and 99th Street with three friends just after midnight when Wet Basement? Caleca then went on to say (“in sum and substance,” according to Brown), “Move your expletive ass. You’re expletive slow, you expletive Osama. Go back to your country.” Afterward, Caleca allegedly parked his truck, got out and confronted Singh and his friends. After a verbal dispute, Caleca then returned to his truck and drove head-on into Singh, catching his body on the vehicle’s undercarriage and then dragging Singh several feet until his body got out from under the vehicle, Brown said. Caleca then fled the scene. Singh was taken to Jamaica Hospital with abdominal and back injuries, and several abrasions. A week after Singh was struck outside of his business, a rally was held urging authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime, according to DNAinfo.
