Last weekend a local food tech company
ensured that nonprofit organization
Urban Upbound will have funds
for their basketball team uniforms,
equipment, and educational curriculum
as part of their summer basketball
camp.
On Saturday, Aug. 5, representatives
from FreshDirect teamed up
with members of Urban Upbound —
a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated
to expanding prosperity in public
housing neighborhoods — at P.S.
111 Jacob Blackwell School in Long
Island City to present the organization
with a check for $2,500 which will help
fund the Drills Build Skills Basketball
Camp.
“All of us at FreshDirect are proud
to play a part in the success of the
Drills Build Skills Basketball Camp,”
said Larry Scott Blackmon, vice president
of public affairs for FreshDirect.
“There is nothing more important than
providing young people with opportunities
to stay active and engaged.”
Joining Blackmon for the check
presentation was Urban Upbound
co-founder and CEO Bishop Mitchell
G. Taylor, Councilman Jimmy Van
Bramer, and many other community
leaders, partners, and residents.
Urban Upbound’s Drills Build Skills
Basketball Camp is a summertime initiative
through their College Access
Program for children ages 10 to 14.
