Enjoy some amazing music at the Festival
From classical Chinese music to steel
drum sounds from the Caribbean, the
entertainment lineup at the 2017 Hong
Kong Dragon Boat Festival promises to
be as diverse and as exciting as Queens
itself.
Here’s a full rundown of the acts to take
the Main Stage at the festival this weekend:
SATURDAY, AUGUST 12
10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Chinese Music
Ensemble of New York
Featuring the younger members, some
in traditional costume, with solo performances
on traditional instruments.
Founded in 1961 this Ensemble is the
oldest and only full Chinese orchestra
in the United States and the Americas.
Its present membership of nearly fi ft h
musicians plays practically every type of
Chinese music on Chinese instruments,
both ancient and modern. In this performance
a smaller ensemble plays a selection
of their repertoire complete with

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Opening
Ceremonies
Lions and Dragon dancing teams with
percussionists welcome all and, together
with invited dignitaries, offi cially kick-off
the 27th annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat
Festival in New York.
1 to 2 p.m. - Echo Music Jam Band
A collaboration between musicians in
the Echo music scene and talented local
singers that together showcase the best of
Pop, Rock, Alternative, and Metal music.
For DBF they will present a fusion of
Canto and American pop.
2 to 3 p.m. - Valerie Green/Dance
Entropy
Valerie Green/Dance Entropy will perform
“Wild Kingdom,” a vibrant, funfi
lled dance. Th e company will present
three works: Dandia, Chiquita Chiquita,
and Wild Kingdom, all stimulating crowd
pleasers, getting audience members dancing
and laughing - a hit for all ages to enjoy!
3 to 4 p.m. - Shaolin Masters from
New York Shaolin Temple
Led by Master Chaohai Lan, perform
martial arts in the tradition of the Shaolin
Temple.
All day (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) - Storyteller
Jonathan Kruk
At the Arts and Craft s Tent, storyteller
Jonathan Kruk will be entertaining children
throughout the day with “Dragon
Tales.”
SUNDAY, AUGUST 13
10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - CASYM Steel
Orchestra
An ensemble from the larger group of
90 members between ages of 7 - 21 bring
the sounds of the Islands. (Presented by
the New York Daily News)
12 to 1 p.m. - Orchestra and vocals
from St. John’s University
Some 30 people will play and sing songs
from the 1940s through the 1970s. Th ere
promises to be great energy and dancing
on the green throughout their performance.
1 to 2 p.m. - Folklorica from Mexico
Th e members of Folklorica will present
colorful dances in traditional dress from
south of the border.
2 to 3 p.m. - Th e Kafele Bandele Group
A Grammy nominated artist for
“Water” and featured on Billboard for
recently released “Blue Notes and Green
Trees.” A background of Jazz, Hip-Hop
and R&B plus afro-beat and other types of
dance music provided the infl uences that
helped cultivate his unique sound.
3 to 4 p.m. - Shaolin Masters from
New York Shaolin Temple
Shaolin Masters from New York
Shaolin Temple perform martial arts in
the tradition of the Shaolin Temple.
