CIMINO, CRISTABELLE TUMOLA Suspect arrested for robbing 73-year-old blind man twice A Brooklyn man has been arrested for robbing a blind 73-year-old twice at his Long Island City home. Ronald Rhodes, 46, has been charged with burglary, robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal FOR GRAND LARCENY PERPETRATOR - PROBABLE CAUSE TO ARREST obstruction of breathing. Rhodes allegedly fi rst robbed the victim on June 29 at 11:15 a.m. According to authorities, he followed the 73-year-old into his home near 41st Avenue and 21st Street, approached him from behind, snatched his chain off his neck and then fl ed on foot. On July 9 at 1:15 p.m., the suspect followed the same man to his home and forced his way into the residence, said police. Grabbing the victim by his throat, the suspect threw him to the fl oor and the victim lost consciousness. The suspect took electronic equipment before fl eeing on foot. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition. Firefi ghter allegedly made fake 9-1-1 calls to steal money FDNY fi refi ghter Joseph Keene pulled the false alarm, allegedly making phony calls to various fi rehouses. Once fi refi ghters responded to the call, Keene crept into the fi re stations and made off with others’ cash, according to a report released by the Department of Investigation (DOI). The investigation shows that Keene made several false 9-1-1 calls, initiating an FDNY response, so that he could enter various fi rehouses and steal money from fi refi ghters’ personal belongings. In one incident in early June, a 9-1-1 call was made reporting a gas odor at Jamaica Avenue and Little Neck Parkway. While the fi re truck was out, Keene entered the fi rehouse and stole roughly $1,200. During the investigation, video surveillance found an individual who appeared to be Keene exiting a car and entering the fi rehouse after the Engine Company had left. The car the individual traveled in was one similar to Keene’s. Keene later admitted it was him in the video. The investigation reports Keene stole over $2,000 from different fi rehouses throughout Queens County and Richmond County in Staten Island. The district attorney charged him with falsely reporting an incident, grand larceny and burglary, all felonies, as well as petit larceny. The Richmond County District Attorney will separately charge Keene as appropriate. On Saturday, July 13, police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a male stabbed in front of 68-10 Roosevelt Avenue. Upon arrival, police observed two victims: a 26-year-old Hispanic man with a stab wound to the chest and a 33-year-old Hispanic man with a stab wound to the torso. EMS responded and took both men to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where the fi rst man, identifi ed as Isaac Martinez, was pronounced dead. The second victim is listed in stable condition. There were no arrests as of press time. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is described as either Hispanic or Asian, 5’3” to 5’8” tall, 120 to 170 pounds, with dark hair, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Seek burglary suspect Police are asking for your help in fi nding the man they say is wanted in connection with a burglary that occurred on Sunday, July 21 inside of 70-14 Garfi eld Avenue. Cops say the suspect gained entry into the victim’s work trailer, attempted to remove property, and fl ed empty handed in a blue van. The suspect is a black man in his 20s, 6’0”, 160 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. 109TH PRECINCT Downtown Flushing, East Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace Man makes off with $90K Police are seeking a man wanted for taking more than $90,000 from a victim’s car. Cops say on June 10, the suspect took a plastic bag containing $90,684 from the victim’s vehicle, which was in the parking lot of 162-05 Crocheron Avenue. The suspect then fl ed the location in a silver Chrysler Pacifi ca. Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Michael Galgano at 718-321-2294 or Detective Borough Queens North at 718-520-9200. 111TH PRECINCT Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Hollis Hills and Fresh Meadows Fatal crash turns up gun On Saturday, July 20, offi cers from the 111th Precinct responded to 9-1-1 calls about a vehicle accident on the westbound Grand Central Parkway near the Cross Island Parkway. Upon arrival the offi cers found a 2011 gold colored Lexus SUV on its side with two occupants still inside the vehicle. EMS also responded and took the driver, Danny Singh, 29, of Hollis, to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. A 28-year-old woman, identifi ed as Nancy Vega of Manhattan, was also transported from the scene by EMS to North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, where she was listed in stable condition. A further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad revealed that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal barrier, causing it to go airborne and striking a tree before coming to rest on its side. Recovered from within the vehicle was a .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol. Police say Vega is now charged with criminal possession of a weapon. 112TH PRECINCT Forest Hills and Rego Park Seek sex assault suspect The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance with the whereabouts and identity of the man wanted in connection to a sexual assault. On Sunday, July 21, in the vicinity of Queens Boulevard, the suspect followed the victim, a 23-year-old woman, to her home and sexually assaulted her. Cops say the perp is a Hispanic male, 25-30 years old, approximately 5’10”, 160 pounds, wearing a red T-shirt, dark colored pants and a red baseball cap. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. 115TH PRECINCT East Elmhurst, North Corona and Jackson Heights Man wanted in armed robbery of Jackson Heights store Police are looking for a man who robbed a Jackson Heights store at gunpoint on Sunday, July 7. The suspect entered the 71-14 37th Avenue business around 2:30 a.m. and sprayed the store clerk with an “irritant,” according to police. He then took money from the cash register and fl ed on foot.
