52 THE QUEENS COURIER • BUZZ • JULY 17, 2014 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com VICTORIA SCHNEPS vschneps@queenscourier.com I’m still addicted My favorite weekend moments are when I can watch the Sunday Show, eat breakfast in bed and read my Sunday newspapers. I guess because it happens that way so rarely, that when it does it’s a real treat and so a perfect Sunday began. The market in Astoria features many vendors with unique items and an international food feast. Since I was off to a real feast later, I just spent my time perusing the vendors and leisurely looking through the “treasure chest” collections of the antique dealers. I know I need nothing, but the quest, the search, is such fun and the dealers so patient. I think they love their items as much as the public because each item seems to have a history. I think that’s the fun of buying used items. I’m usually drawn to jewelry items and I found a pair of pearl earrings. After all, a woman can never have enough pearls or diamonds! And then there was a bracelet crafted from Mahjongg tiles. Since my daughter now plays as I did as a kid, it was nostalgic to buy it. I don’t know if she will wear it, but I thought it was a great idea created by the owner. The bracelets were a small part of the packed-full-of-merchandise space. A charcoal painting of the Brooklyn Bridge caught my eye and I ended up buying it. While talking with the owner about the painting, I found out it had hung in his living room in Brooklyn where he grew up. It turns out he went to Midwood High School and I went to Madison. A wonderful walk down memory lane on many levels! On Saturday I went with my friend Rhona Silver to Bridgehampton to visit the annual event, A r t H a m p t o n s , featuring fine art works from around the world. There were several impressive pieces from the group that came here from Korea. One artist, Dae Sub Kim, was my favorite. The oil paintings of fruit with threedimensional fruit coming out of the work looked real enough that I wanted to take a bite out of the peaches and plums. I was in awe of the creativity and uniqueness of the works of more than 200 artists. I’m sorry it was only one weekend and the Korean artists are returning to their home. To fi nish the weekend I was with Frank and Anita Ciolli to celebrate the Giglio Feast of Mt. Carmel. Her brother’s r e s t a u r a n t , Bamonte’s, was so packed we went to eat at another one of my favorite restaurants, Giando’s, under the Williamsburg Bridge. What a spectacular meal and with a room packed with their friends and some of mine! victoria’s secrets tweet me @vschneps The impressive oil paintings by Korean artist Dae Sub Kim, were my favorite at ArtHamptons show Ceil Witherspoon sold me the waterproof pocketbook made from Capri Sun containers Front row: (l to r) Msgr.
