FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com july 4, 2013 • HEAlth • The Queens Courier 41 Have you or someone you know recently suffered a stroke? CNS Rehab can help you! Harry Kim was born in South Korea to a poor family. Due to his father’s job instability, Kim and his four siblings had to live frugally. Thanks to the help of his older brother, Harry became a good student. When he was 15 years old, Harry endured a trauma- a low back fracture with a herniated disc. He suffered for many years trying to look for a doctor who could help him; however no one was able to. Not wanting others to suffer this way, Kim decided to pursue medicine, out of his strong desire to help those in need. He received his medical education in both Korea and the USA. By 23, Dr.Kim wrote a book titled “CNS” (Central Nervous System), on which he taught students in Seoul. After defending his degree in the USA, he began working in two major rehab centers in New York. Today, he is an experienced physical therapist with a deep grasp in oriental medicine and herbal treatments. Dr. Kim’s office is located in Rego Park. This office offers a wide variety of treatments along with state of the art equipment for treating all ailments and strengthening problem areas. Dr Kim treats various ailments such as arthritis, osteoporosis, stroke, neck and back pain, knee pain, heel spur, as well as migraines, incontinence and many other diseases. The numerous treatments available include but are not limited to: acupuncture, spinal decompression, cold laser therapy, manual therapy, shockwave therapy (ESWT), and natural herbal medicine, etc. Dr.Kim is very attentive to each of his patients and makes sure each patient receives quality treatment. His main principle is to treat the source of the problem in order to avoid symptoms. I spent 31 years of my life devoted to medicine and encountered many health care professionals, but I have rarely met a specialist of such high class as Dr.Kim. What singles him out amongst other medical professionals is his love for the work he does, as well as his desire to help every sick person. His past patients remember him with great gratitude. I went to Dr.Kim because I practically couldn’t move because of pain in my spine and left leg due to a stroke. Treatment in other clinics brought no results. Dr. Kim restored the nerves damaged during my stroke, which was the root of my pain. After two months of treatment, there was noticeable progress. I constantly see Dr.Kim and his medical personnel strive to help all of their patients. Like many other grateful patients, I owe a lot to Dr.Kim, and am very pleased with the knowledge and quality of care he provides to all of his patients. For anyone with any medical concerns, I strongly recommend seeking treatment in CNS Rehabilitation Center. With admiration and respect, Dr. Kim, from David Ilyasov. Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Herbal Treatments Your #1 solution for lower back pain, headache and TMJ problems The facts are on the table. Stroke continues to be a significant cause of death and disability in the U.S., according to the American Stroke Association. Nearly 600,000 Americans have a new or recurrent stroke each year. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in Western Society. In Korea, it is the second most common cause of death in cities and the third in rural areas. It is also a main cause of adult disability and dependency. Acupuncture for stroke has been used in Korea for thousands of years and is increasingly practiced in some Western Countries. Here is a personal experience of mine when I treated a stroke patient: I treated my friend’s dad after his stroke in 2007. I was able to treat him the first week after his stroke. I used smokeless moxa and acupuncture on his legs and arms and within a few days he was walking almost normally. His leg had gone cold and numb. As long as your limbs are cold, you do not get good blood flow. Your blood naturally does not flow well when you are cold. When you warm the tissue, the blood will be able to start circulating again. Acupuncture treatments work by restoring circulation. The acupuncture points open up circulation in the body and help it to function normally. When a person has a stroke, the brain stops communicating to the body point that is affected. This is a very simplistic explanation of strokes, but it helps to see it this way. If you have had a stroke that affects the left side of your body, you can try to move your left hand, but cannot. Your brain no longer controls your left hand. How can you treat this? Acupuncture and oriental medicines are very effective to treat stroke symptoms. Using acupuncture points on the arm that open circulation in the arm, Small Intestine 3 & Gall Bladder 41, are often used with electro-acupuncture to stimulate the communication between the limb and the brain. You can look at it like an information highway. The brain normally controls the hand, but the communication is blocked due to the stroke. If you stimulate the hand and arm with acupuncture, your brain can start to recognize the arm again. The sooner you get acupuncture after a stroke, the faster your recovery will be. The longer you wait after a stroke, the more likely your muscles will go “flaccid” or asleep. Your muscles will be weak and you will have to build them back up again so you have the muscles to function with the restored nerve flow. If you had gone to get this acupuncture stroke therapy within a few weeks of the stroke, I personally believe you would have had a complete recovery within 90 days. It is very important to start acupuncture therapy as quickly as possible after a stroke. 63-60 102nd St., Unit G22, Rego Park, NY 11374 718-896–2011 • www.cnsrehabilitation.com
